Emergency Contraception

Free for Persons aged 17-31 Years Old

Emergency contraceptive pills are available directly from the Burren Pharmacy  to women over 16 years of age, subject to meeting certain criteria.  Emergency hormonal contraception (EHC) is a safe and effective method for preventing pregnancy when regular contraception has failed or if no contraception was used.

Emergency hormonal contraception also known as the morning after pill, can be effective up to five days (120 hours) after unprotected sex but is more effective the sooner you use it.
